American University of Beirut: Education Sponsorship

The American University of Beirut (AUB) in Beirut, Lebanon has played a transformative role in the history of Lebanon, the Arab world, and globally for 160 years. It was the Syrian Protestant College, as AUB was known until 1920, that established the first astronomical observatory (in 1873), introduced business education (in 1900), and opened the first nursing school (in 1905) in the Arab world. AUB is also home to the third oldest museum in the Near East. In 1921, AUB became fully co-educational, 50 years before many western universities. AUB opened its first twin campus outside Lebanon, the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo in Pafos, Cyprus, in fall 2023.
AUB’s mission is to serve the peoples of the Middle East and beyond. We do this in the classroom, at our medical centers in Beirut and Keserwan, and in outreach activities that benefit the community. We seek the support of partners who share our mission. Two of our highest priorities are student scholarships and funds to assist patients seeking medical care.
AUB is chartered in the State of New York in the United States and is governed by a private and autonomous Board of Trustees. AUB is an accredited institution by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and is classified by the US Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
